Sometime in March we discovered a major problem with our Ballroom floor. It all started when one of our caretakers noticed that
one corner of the floor seemed particularly "springy" so we asked a local carpenter to investigate.

On taking up some of the wooden boards, he found that many of the joists and wall plates were rotten through, a combination of old age, woodworm and damp penetration. As a result, we had to take up the whole floor and replace timbers wherever necessary.

Our builders are worked extremely hard to complete the work as quickly as possible but the Ballroom was out of action for nearly a month.
