Thank you so much for funding our special community event held on Sunday 2nd August, to commemorate the 70 year anniversary of the end of WW2. The funding went towards booking a falconry display and live music, hiring marquees for our WW2 History display and games and crafts. We were also able to hire a loan box from The Regimental Museum, in Brecon, that contained lots of original artefacts from the WW2 period that we displayed in the History Tent. We prepared display boards of the History of RAF Madley, which were also displayed in the History Tent. Funding also went towards preparation time for the event, publicity, and making a mosaic of the RAF Madley Insignia.
Other attractions on the day included chainsaw carving and polelathe demonstrations, tractor trailer rides, vintage military vehicles, model aircraft display, making water rockets, a treasure hunt based on morse code and traditional games such as shove h’penny, a coconut shy, hook a duck and hoopla. A photo montage of the Event, depicting many of these activities is enclosed.
The event was advertised well on social media, web based days out pages and with flyers and posters (a flyer for the event is enclosed). The date did unfortunately clash with the Herefordshire County Show, which we only discovered after the advertising had gone out. Despite this, we had over 180 people to the event, all giving really positive feedback of their day out.
The RAF Madley mosaic was made over a period of 3 days and will be installed in a frame next to a sculpture of a Dominie biplane on the Nature Reserve.
